Nigerian producer and artist Nuel Beatz brings his texture-driven, emotional approach to Afro-Soul together with Christian Afro-fusion artist Saelem on “Heavenly Father,” a deeply personal gospel record about holding onto faith when life feels overwhelming. Rather than speaking from a place of having everything figured out, the song sounds like a conversation between a believer who is tired and a God they still trust.
“Heavenly Father” opens like a prayer, with Saelem speaking directly to Jesus about the pressures and struggles he is facing. There is humour and familiar Nigerian expression in the way the conversation unfolds, giving the song an everyday quality that makes its message feel close to home. Beneath the lightness, however, is a serious question: how much can one person carry before the weight becomes too much? The reference to Job deepens that tension, drawing from the biblical story of a man whose faith was tested through extraordinary hardship. Like Job, Saelem finds himself caught between difficult circumstances and a belief that God remains present. Relationships can fall apart, money can become a concern, and outside voices can question the strength of his faith, but he continues to return to the same question: “But where else can I go?”
