Mera Owili is a Nigerian gospel singer, songwriter, and worship leader hailing from Bayelsa State. She often brings her Ijaw heritage into contemporary gospel music, incorporating her local dialect into songs of worship and praise. Her new album “Melodies of My Heart” brings together declarations of faith, gratitude, worship, and celebration of God’s goodness.
The album opens with “The Believer’s Confession,” a declaration of the finished work of Christ as Mera sings, “Jesus died for me, He died as me,” before affirming that she was buried and raised with Him and is seated in heavenly places with Christ. “The Faithful One” continues with a declaration of trust through difficult seasons, describing Jesus as the One who never leaves, lies, or fails. On “Tari,” Mera turns to gratitude, singing “Your love e dey overwhelm me o,” while “We Worship You” declares the glory of God over all creation.
“Nana Owei Mbana” carries that thanksgiving further with the simple reminder that life itself is a gift, “I no buy am, everything na for free,” while “That Name Jesus” focuses on the power found in the name of Christ. “All Because You Love Me” celebrates the transformation that comes through that love, as she sings, “Jesus, my life has changed o, all because You love me o.”
The second half of the album moves deeper into praise and celebration. “Oba” brings a vibrant Yoruba- language expression of praise to the eternal King, while “Oribime” gives thanks for everything God has done. On “Tamuno,” Mera admits that God has done so much that she cannot fully tell it, before “Give Am Praise” lifts the energy with the declaration, “Baba na you give me joy, Baba na you give me peace.” “Celebrate” turns that gratitude into a victory song, proclaiming, “I go sing o, He has given me
victory,” while “You Love Me” closes the album with a personal expression of wonder at the love of Jesus.
