Konan – one half of trailblazing rap duo Krept & Konan, releases ‘Delroy’s Son’ on Christmas day– an introspective and deeply emotional tribute to his father, reggae pioneer Delroy Wilson. As a poignant addition to the upcoming Krept & Konan album ‘Young Kingz II’, the track reflects on Konan’s journey and
legacy.
Konan Says ‘“This song is a letter to my dad, serving as a sequel to “My Letter”, a track from
the Tsunami mixtape that features Karis Anderson, who plays Tina Turner in the West End
musical “Tina” This part two brings him up to date on how my life has evolved as I follow in
his footsteps in the music industry. It reflects on my journey, highlighting both the wins and
losses I’ve experienced along the way.”
The accompanying music video amplifies these sentiments and features footage of Konan
when he returned to Jamaica to record the album. Spending time revisiting his father’s
memory with a visit his grave proved a transformative experience that reaffirmed his
connection to his heritage and inspired him to honour his father’s legacy through his own
storytelling.
Following the recent release of Krept’s ‘Nala’s Song’, this track further sets the tone for
an album rooted in introspection, growth and set to be Krept & Konan’s most personal
project to date. Tracks ‘Smooth Lovin’ ft Popcaan, and teaser solo freestyles; ‘Daily Duppy:
New Snap City FT Chip’, from Krept; and Konan’s Last Night In Kingston; have already built
excitement for the upcoming album and provoked a huge response, reaffirming Krept &
Konan’s undisputed status as ‘UK rap royalty’.
‘Young Kingz II’ is the long-awaited sequel to Krept & Konan’s 2013 mixtape ‘Young Kingz’,
which made history as the highest-charting album by an unsigned act on the UK Albums
Chart. Independently released on their Play Dirty label, ‘Young Kingz II’ brings their journey
full circle – a reflective exploration of life-defining moments since their debut, rooted in their
heritage and recorded largely in Jamaica. The album features an impressive roster of
collaborators, including Nigerian star Oxlade, Jamaican icons Sizzla and Popcaan, UK rap
heavyweights Chip, Potter Payper, Ghetts, Youngs Teflon, and actors Michael
Ward and Damson Idris. It also incorporates a poignant sample of Konan’s father, Reggae
legend Delroy Wilson. Blending Afrobeats, Dancehall, Grime, and Hip Hop, ‘Young Kingz
II’ delves into deeply personal themes – PTSD, fatherhood, grief, loss, and systemic injustice –
while addressing the realities of incarceration, and survival. It’s set to be a bold and
poignant statement, cementing Krept & Konan’s legacy as voices of resilience and
authenticity in British music.
To mark the release of ‘Young Kingz II’, Krept & Konan will host a sold out intimate live show
at Outernet London on April 9, 2025. ‘Young Kingz II’ is Krept & Konan’s first album since top-5
charting Revenge Is Sweet, a project which cemented their place in music history and saw them
become the first British rap act to headline the O2 London. It also follows the duo’s equally groundbreaking 2017 release of 7 DAYS and 7 NIGHTS, which saw them become the first act ever to have two mixtapes simultaneously enter the Top 10 of the Official UK Albums chart, and their 2015 debut
album The Long Way Home which debuted at no. 2 on The Official UK Albums Chart, becoming the
highest charting British Rap album in UK chart history.
‘Young Kingz II’ is poised to be yet another milestone in Krept & Konan’s unstoppable career as they
continue to push boundaries and set new benchmarks in British music.
