Zoro Swagbag, born Owoh Chimaobi Chrismathner, has built a distinct identity by bringing Igbo language, culture and storytelling into contemporary Nigerian hip-hop and Afropop. Born in Onitsha and originally from Agwu, Enugu State, he rose to national prominence in 2016 with his breakout single “Ogene” featuring Flavour. Since then, he has continued to represent his roots
while evolving his sound for a wider audience.
His latest single, “Settings,” finds Zoro in a celebratory mood. Boisterous, confident and unapologetic, the record is built around Zoro reflecting on the life he has worked towards, giving thanks to God for His favour while celebrating the wealth, comfort and progress that have come with his journey.
Produced by Izzy Beats and legendary Afrobeats producer Masterkraft, “Settings” blends an infectious urban bounce with nostalgic Highlife textures. The production gives Zoro plenty of room to deliver his braggadocious verses while maintaining the kind of upbeat energy that gets listeners moving from the opening beat. It is a sound that feels familiar while still carrying the
swagger of Zoro’s contemporary style.
Beyond the flexing, however, “Settings” is also about sharing the rewards of success. Zoro’s celebration extends to his family and brothers, reflecting a familiar Nigerian idea of making it not simply for yourself, but for the people who have been part of the journey. The money, the lifestyle and the good times become symbols of how far he has come. That makes “Settings” feel like a victory lap. As Nigeria heads into another December season of celebrations, Zoro delivers a soundtrack for enjoying the moment, giving thanks for how far life has moved and refusing to think small. There is ambition in the record, but there is also gratitude: the work has been done, the blessings have arrived, and now it is time to enjoy the settings.
