AnEndlessOcean (AEO), born Ayobami Alli Hakeem, has built his musical journey around the relationship between faith, introspection, and personal transformation. Raised by a Muslim father and Christian mother, he eventually found his spiritual home in Christianity, a journey that continues to shape his songwriting and artistic expression. Over the past five years, he has emerged as an expressive voice in Nigerian gospel music.
On his new album, FREEDOM, AEO explores the meaning of spiritual liberation through the lens of surrender, gratitude, and a desire to live more fully in God’s will. Inspired by the biblical verse in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed,” AEO approaches freedom as both a gift of faith and an ongoing journey of transformation.
The album opens with “Ri’san,” a song centred on surrender, gratitude, and the greatness of Jesus. From there, “Billion, Trillion, Infinity” celebrates the boundlessness of God’s love and the transformation that comes from experiencing it. That desire for transformation becomes even more personal on “Freedom” and “Qyis”. AEO
reflects on God’s holiness and faithfulness while expressing a longing to remain close to Him.
“Qyis”, also referred to as “Qedosh,” a title drawn from the Hebrew word for “holy,” reinforces the album’s emphasis on reverence. These songs reveal a desire to celebrate God’s greatness while also seeking the grace to live in a way that reflects His nature. Sonically, FREEDOM is a new territory as AEO brings together an eclectic group of collaborators, including Ryan Ofei, Saelem, veteran Nigerian gospel singer Wale Adenuga,
and Bolu Ajayi, adding different voices and perspectives to the album’s wider expression of faith.
With FREEDOM, AEO presents a body of work rooted in the belief that true freedom is found in Christ. The album celebrates the assurance of God’s love while acknowledging the continued work of surrender, obedience, and spiritual growth.
