Unveiling Treggz’s Musical Diversity: A Trip Down Love Lane

There’s a reason why I love music a lot; because it can be used to express different emotions; anger, pain, sadness, joy, and lastly, love.

Let’s talk about Treggz; a hopeless romantic who has carved a niche for himself in the music industry, while blowing our minds tune after tune. In this interview with Treggz, I came to understand how creativity truly works, it doesn’t confine one to a particular skill or niche but instead allows you to play around and come up with beautiful results just like the songs I’m about to put you on.

Treggz’s range of genres is mind-blowing, one minute he is singing afro soul, the next he’s singing afro beats and later he’s rapping but in all, he’s a complete lover boy.

Grix: Hi there

Treggz: Hello

Grix: Are you ready for the interview?

Treggz: Sure, bring it on

Even though we were doing this over texts, I could sense the excitement in his voice.

Grix: So please tell us about yourself

Treggz: My name is Osayi Omonbhude Festus, AKA Treggz, I’m a singer, songwriter and performer.

It’s not news that most people have to hire songwriters before making music (which is not a bad thing, to be honest). I’m just trying to say that Treggz is a genius.

Treggz grew up in Benin City, Edo state. His music style combines Afro beats and ethereal contemporary sounds. His lyrics are relatable and they resonate deep within one’s soul (this further shows that he indeed takes his time to write his songs)

Grix: Amazing, can you tell us what inspired you to go into music

Treggz: Uhmm, I’d like to say it was pre-destined…because I grew up in a home where different genres of music were played almost every day, from there while growing up, I sang in the church’s children’s choir a little bit.

The major thing that inspired me was when I stumbled on hip-hop music from the likes of Eminem, Drake, and Lil Wayne.

This is unrelated, but why is it that almost every music artist started building their careers from the church? That’s something to be researched later

Grix: Oh, nice. So it’s safe to say that these people have inspired your works of art. Can you tell us about the latest one?

Treggz: Yes, in the earlier stages, because I initially started as a rapper. But going forward I discovered I could sing and listen to Afrobeat’s heavyweights like Wiz, David, Burna, and Olamide and the new generation of artists inspired and still inspires me to this very moment to keep evolving as an artist.

My latest release, “Hello”

Treggz: This is a love song on which I’m telling a story, where the guy is chasing after his love interest (the girl). Trying to get her attention and make her know that His love for Her is real.

Remember when I said he’s a loverboy

Grix: oh beautiful. How do you connect with your audience through your music?

Treggz: I tend to sing songs on topics that cut across our day-to-day lives as humans while maintaining that “feel-good” vibe but carefully passing across my message.

Treggz’s discography is filled with four amazing tracks; Falling released in 2018, On Kpa released in 2019, Rotate released in 2022 and his latest single, Hello released early this year. If you are a hopeless romantic, then add these songs to your playlist.

Grix: So basically, you stay true to your style while also giving your audience (fans) what they want?

Treggz: Yes, exactly.

But if I’m being honest, I’d say I tend to create based on my emotions and experiences(personal or from those around me) in any form or genre I’m feeling at the moment because I don’t want to be put in a box.

Hence how you can find me Singing on Afrobeats today and hear me vibing on a drill or trap song tomorrow. All while maintaining the core “Feel- Good But conscious” Vibes That I, Treggz Brings.

So it’s me creating and hoping that someone out there can and will resonate with the emotions and messages, I pass across

Grix: Nice, you have range. You can switch from one genre to the other and still maintain the vibe. Beautiful

As someone with an eclectic music taste, I appreciate it when an artiste can switch genres and still keep the vibe tight.

Treggz: Thank you.

Grix: Have you ever been faced with challenges or creative blocks while working on music?

Treggz: Yes, I have

I think that’s normal with every creative person at a certain point in time.

That’s certainly normal, I’ve experienced times where I just sit in front of my laptop, clueless on what to write or what to do, but then I just play some music; On Kpa is a really good one to pull you out of a funk.

Grix: Hm

How about generally, during your career? And how did you overcome it?

Treggz: From funding to getting the right team around me, to creating…..I think it all boils down to persevering, having a never-say-never attitude, and most importantly praying to GOD for strength and direction.

Grix: Yes, prayer is essential

Treggz: Yeah

Grix: What’s your best track from Treggz? You surely have that one song you can’t get enough of

Treggz: Every single one of my songs is special to me, but at the moment I’ll say it’s my latest release “Hello”

Grix: Nice it’s mine too

Everyone loves a beautiful love story (Silently prays to find true love most unexpectedly and prays it stays till forever because the streets are full of Gen Z and they don’t have love to give)

Treggz: thank you

Grix: Should we be looking forward to any new project or collaboration?

Treggz: Yes, definitely

The project’s still in the works and it’s all coming together beautifully.

GOD’s Engineering still.

Grix: Amazing 🤩

Treggx: Thank you

Grix: Thank you, we’ve come to the end of this interview. We appreciate you making our time for us.

Treggx: Thank You For Having Me
