V-BE AND WENDY KIMANI CHOOSE GROWTH OVER

V-Be, also known as Vijana Barubaru, is the Kenyan duo made up of rapper Mshairi Spikes and vocalist
Tuku Kantu. Over the years, they have built a reputation for crafting love songs that feel close to home.
Their music blends pop melodies, spoken word influences, and East African rhythms, often telling stories
about modern relationships in Nairobi. They have stayed consistent in writing about the “sweet and sour”
sides of love, choosing honesty over fantasy. With “Better Love” featuring Wendy Kimani, they take
that honesty a step further and confront the harder conversations that couples often avoid.

“Better Love” opens with confession. “Nikavunja promisi,” meaning “I broke the promise,” sets the
tone of accountability. There is no blame game at the start. Instead, both sides admit fault and look
inward. Lines like “Tabia za babako… unaziona kwangu” and “Zinakaa za mamangu” point to
inherited behaviors from family. The song recognizes how past environments can shape present
relationships. The statement “It ends with us baby, hapa ndio curse inaishia” becomes the emotional
center of the track. They decide that unhealthy cycles stop with them. The chorus, “We deserve better
love,” feels like both a plea and a shared decision. When they sing, “Hii love si ya kuvumilia, hii love ni
ya kupigania,” they make it clear that real love requires effort and intention.
