ASHIDAPO REIMAGINES WANDE COAL’S “BABYHELLO” FOR A NEW GENERATION ON VIRAL SINGLE “GOBE”

The internet doesn’t wait, and neither does Ashidapo. His upcoming single “Gobe” has ignited a
viral firestorm on TikTok with over 14,000 user-generated videos created from an advanced
snippet, months before its official release on October 4, 2025. Fueled by dance challenges,
flirtatious lip-syncs, and club-ready energy, the track is fast becoming one of the most
anticipated Afropop releases of the year.

Born Fowowe Oyedapo David, Ashidapo, the Afrofusion and street pop artist has been building
momentum steadily. Following the success of his debut EP Take Ova (over 5 million streams
globally) and the high-octane collaboration “Girl On Fya” featuring Olamide (which peaked at
No. 22 on Apple Music NG) and appeared on top 20 global Shazam for four weeks. “Gobe” is a
celebration of infatuation, swagger, and generational connection.

In Nigerian slang, “Gobe” traditionally means trouble. But Ashidapo flips the script: for him, it’s
that heart-stopping moment when someone walks into a room and everything else fades away.

“‘Gobe’ has the energy that makes you stop and say ‘wow,’” says Ashidapo. “I was using it in
the sense of being completely mesmerized by a lady.”

Produced by UK-based Nigerian hitmaker Maleek Berry (Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage), “Gobe”
masterfully samples the nostalgic melody of Wande Coal’s 2009 classic “Baby Hello,”
reimagining it with bouncy log drums, crisp percussion, and a hypnotic hook designed for clubs,
streets, and playlists alike. The result is a dance-ready fusion of old-school soul and next-gen
Afrobeats.

Released via Ashidapo’s own imprint Ova Music, “Gobe” positions Ashidapo as one of Nigeria’s
breakout artists for 2025.
“Gobe” is out on all platforms.
