Skales grew up in the back of a church in Kaduna, where his mother, Martina, sold CDs and
cassettes at International Praise Cathedral. She was the first person to believe in him; she saw
something in him long before anyone else did. That early support planted a seed. Now, years
later, with the release of his new album, ‘Martina’s Son’, Skales is giving that belief back to her
and himself.
The album arrives 23 months after his Proof of Life EP, a period that quietly reshaped his
story. In March 2025, his 2014 hit “Shake Body” surged back to life when Barcelona’s young
star Lamine Yamal shared it online, sending the song viral across continents. Skales seized the
moment with new music, performances, and reconnecting with fans, reminding people why his
voice matters.
On ‘Martina’s Son’, Skales leans into his versatility, pairing Afro-pop with street-hop grit, R&B
smoothness, and gospel-tinged hope. Collaborations with Fave, Tome, Joshua Baraka,
Nasboi, Faze, Magneto, Innoss B, and Yinka Ayefele expand the album’s sonic palette while
keeping Skales’ voice at its centre.
Tracks like “Mental” and “Scandal” capture his nightlife persona, while “Body On Me” shows
his loverman side. “Blessings Shower” and “Glory” offer moments of reflection. The Spanish
remix of Shake Body closes the loop, a cross-cultural nod to global resonance.
Skales has always seen happiness as an ongoing pursuit. As he once put it: “Happiness is
peace of mind to me, doing what you love and being profitable from it.” With ‘Martina’s
Son’, that philosophy shines through. Skales may not have a Grammy yet, but what he has is
worth far more: a family, a team, friends, fans, and an unshakable belief in himself. And now,
with this album, the world has no choice but to believe, too.
