RUKMANI AND SGAWD CONFRONT EMOTIONAL NEGLECT IN “NOT NICE”

Rukmani’s music often feels like diary pages turned into melodies, and her new single “Not
Nice” is no different. Featuring Sgawd, the track explores the pain of being undervalued in a
relationship and the clarity that comes with finally leaving.

The hook, “You’re not nice, yeah”, is simple but powerful. It captures the breaking point that
comes after months of giving, only to be met with neglect. From lines like “You Dey quick to
forget / Anything I do for you,” listeners get a glimpse into the exhausting cycle of emotional
labour.

Sgawd’s verse cuts deep, with a stark metaphor: “If I stick around you go use me like
doormat / You use bolt,” reducing intimacy to a quick, temporary transaction. The line “Said
some mean shit had to block you off my contact list” is a modern form of survival, and the
song normalises walking away even when love still lingers.

Produced by NYRP, the production makes walking away sound like a victory lap as every
bounce has you nodding your head.
“Not Nice” is out on all platforms.
