VICTOR AD CONFRONTS HIS PAST, CELEBRATES HIS GROWTH ON “THE THERAPIST”
Victor AD has spent the better part of a decade turning personal experience into music that speaks to the realities of ambition, struggle, and survival. Born Victor Adere, the Nigerian singer and songwriter first captured widespread attention with “Wetin We Gain,” a breakout record that transformed his reflections on hardship and purpose into a generational anthem. Following two successful EPs and his debut album, he returns with The Therapist, a five-track project that looks inward while celebrating how far he has come.
‘The Therapist’ is a series of honest conversations that Victor AD seems to be having with himself, each track asking a different question about who he is, where he has been, and what he wants. The EP opens with “Heal Me (Time),” built around a sample of Enya’s “Time.” Victor AD uses the familiar weight of that song to set up something deeply personal: an apology to a lover, and quietly, to himself. He confronts what it means to have neglected something precious, to have lost time that cannot be recovered, and to ask whether love can survive the damage left behind.
From reflection, the project moves into triumph on “Level” featuring Babyboy AV. Victor contrasts where he started with where he is now, celebrating the progress that once seemed distant. Rather than allowing outside opinions to diminish his achievements, he encourages listeners to remember their beginnings and recognise how far they have travelled. “Monaco” pushes that confidence further. Built around ambition and self-belief, the record finds Victor looking toward the life he intends to create and refusing to allow imperfections, setbacks, or doubt to define his possibilities.
The mood darkens on “War,” where Victor confronts the less glamorous realities of survival. Using the language of warfare, he reflects on betrayal, shifting relationships, inner conflict, and the scars accumulated along the way. Yet beneath the aggression is a desire for peace.
The EP closes with “Only God” featuring Timaya, bringing the project back to its spiritual centre. Reflecting on growing up with his mother and learning to depend on God through difficult seasons, Victor turns his personal history into testimony. Timaya’s presence strengthens the song’s sense of lived experience, as both artists reflect on hardship, resilience, and the grace that carried them through.
